These typically aren’t the types of trips I tend to take. Resort vacations always seem so isolated and hard to actually explore the area & culture but in this trip we still get to do that. Every now and then a good relaxing trip is much needed. Thats exactly what this Cabo trip was for.
Planning:
When planning for a trip to Cabo, I realized there are two areas Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo. Do your research and see which one better suits your goal for the trip.
My boyfriend booked our transportation to and from the airport. So he booked the transportation through his chase credit card, but didn’t follow up so he essentially paid for the transportation but nothing was ever booked with the transportation company. There was so many different companies outside the airport we found the one we were supposed to ride with and he was able to set something up with one of them.
So make sure your transportation is confirmed before leaving. Luckily they had bars right outside the airport, so while he was doing that, I was enjoying my lil pina colada. I have traveled enough to understand that not everything is going to go the way you plan it. If you read more of my blogs you’ll see what I mean lol.
The Resort
The resort was huge. It was an adults only resort. There was 3-4 pools and the resort also gave you access to its sister resorts that were next door, and vise versa. Each resort had different vibes, so if yours wasn’t the vibe you can just spend the day at the one next door. My favorite restaurant for dinner was the steakhouse. We went there twice. They had a really good lobster and shrimp dinner. The other restaurants were okay. For lunch we loved the Pepes Food stand at the pool. Tacos, nachos and tequila, what more could you need poolside.
Is it safe to leave the resort?
Yes, unlike other areas in Mexico, I do recommend leaving the resort. I really don’t like traveling places where its not recommended to leave because then its hard to gage how much you really like and enjoy the culture of an area. Being transparent there was a lot of people offering drugs. Constant people coming up to you. I wouldn’t necessarily like this spot if I was solo traveling, but being with my boyfriend I felt safe and just ignored everyone who approached us.
Things to do outside of the resort:
- Visit the Marina
From our resort it was a cheap, quick uber ride to the downtown Marina where theres tons of restaurants, bars, and shops.
2. Book an excursion
With included pickup/drop off so you don’t have to worry about transportation
3. Visit bars and restaurants in downtown Cabo
Although the food at the resort was good, I definitely get sick of eating the same thing every day. So go out and enjoy the food in Cabo
4. Visit Medano Beach
Its one of the few beaches in Cabo where you can actually swim
Excursions:
I booked with Cabo Adventures and they didn’t disappoint. One of the excursions was a combination of Camel ride, visiting and learning about a Cabo Ecofarm and riding ATV’s! This is the ultimate excursion. If you only had time for one I would choose this one, because you get 3 in one. They picked us up from our hotel and dropped us back off when it was over.
Phones aren’t permitted but they have a photographer who follows you around the whole time taking photos and then at the end you pay and they air drop you everything! So we got over 100 photos for under $200.
The other tour we did was a two bay snorkeling trip.
I honestly expected it to be a little warmer, so we both were freezing on this boat ride. And it was a snorkeling excursion so then we had to get in the water, no wetsuits either. We also took the trip in January so didn’t know what to expect weather wise. Regardless, I would recommend the boat ride, the sunsets were amazing.
Thanks for your blog, nice to read. Do not stop.
